  The request for feature phones continue to experience positive growth, as shipments grew for the fourth consecutive quarter of 2018 and contributing to 23 percent  of the total handset shipments. This is in contrast with the smartphone market, which is experiencing negative growth rates, according to Counterpoint’s Market Monitor service. The market continued growth of feature phones largely came from Middle East & Africa (MEA), which has emerged as the largest feature phone market globally. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said it has uncovered large volume of forceful and illegal deductions by Network providers and has put all necessary plans in place to get operators make refunds to consumers. “As a consumer-centric regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission has noted with great displeasure the unacceptably high level of consumer complaints in respect of forceful subscriptions to Value-Added Services (VAS), as well as airtime deductions for these subscriptions,” it said in a statement yesterday.   By Martin Ekpeke Stakeholders in the Nigeria’s telecom sector have called for the full implementation of an automated settlement scheme for the telecom industry, saying it is the only way out of the interconnect indebtedness quagmire in the industry. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) last week disclosed that 2G network has remained the most pervasive in Nigeria with 90 percent of the population connected to it.
