The board of Abuja Teaching Hospital, was today at the Corporate headquarter of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) over what it described as a Thank You visit.

Specifically, the Board Chairman, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja, who led the delegation comprising the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital and Dr. Nicholas Baamlong, Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, noted in his opening remark that they are compelled to pay a visit to the EVC/ CEO NCC to express their immense gratitude for the magnanimity accorded the hospital by the Management of NCC.

“We are delighted and thought we should pay you a visit to thank you and to appreciate you for the ICT support, the first support we ever received since the establishment of the hospital 25 years ago,” he said.

The supports, according to him are in the areas of  ICT facilities, the E- health and data sharing centre established for the hospital. “We also appreciate the Data Centres provided to the university main campus of Abuja and the Abuja Teaching Hospital and the University Inter-campus Connectivity (Fibre) for connectivity and sharing of data,” he added.

Responding, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta stated that NCC is mandated to ensure universal connectivity across the country, stressing that what the NCC is doing is in line with its plan of ensuring that all government agencies become interconnected, digitized so that a unified data centre will be domiciled with National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

According to him, the aim is to ensure that there are digitization and computerization to enable Smart society. The essence is to ensure universal data centre of records, fast tracking and sharing, elimination of distance and the provision of timely information.

Danbatta, acknowledged their gratitude and informed them that the Commission has the whole country as its constituency, and it’s expected we should not concentrate our interventionary resources in just one institute of government. Interventions by the Commission are expected to reach all the nooks and crannies of Nigeria.

The E-health and Data sharing facilities provided to the hospital is at 90 percent completion. All necessary equipments have been supplied and installed and, what’s is remaining is the integration of the system, with the assurance that the work would be completed in 2-3 weeks time as the contractor Messrs Coscharis Technology Limited has been directed to finalize the work to enable its commissioning and handover to the hospital.

The Universal Service Provision Fund, an arm of the NCC has provided University Inter-campus Fibre Connectivity between the hospital and main campus and, data centres for the main campus of the university and the AUTH.
