Some Computer Engineering students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro in Ogun State, have described their excursion experience to the head offices of CWG Plc last week as unforgettable, saying it was an eye-opener to the realities of the impact of their educational pursuit on potential careers in the future.

The students, who shared their experiences with Journalists, said the visit was an inspiration that will ultimately boost and further stimulate their morale and imaginations on the implementation of the knowledge they are acquiring in school.

Specifically, one of the students, Benjamin Lasisi, a software development enthusiast, said the excursion is more of a mindset changer for him; as his dream of providing a software solution for businesses, SMEs, and mainstream companies now seems more feasible and the tour made it clear that his dream could indeed become a reality.

“What I have seen today is mind-blowing, it has further geared and sparked my zeal for what I love doing. I cannot put all of them in words, but I will need to mention some points definitely. It is very important that some of those theories we learn in school are applicable to real life situations, so having an opportunity to visit an organization (CWG PLC) where these theories are put to practice daily is exciting,” he stated.

Benjamin Lasisi, an HND 2 student from the Computer Engineering Department; added that he was impressed by the state-of-the-art workspace of the CWG’s innovation hub, where a number of professionals are given the opportunity to implement their imaginations in coding, Android development and CSSR, all of which happen to be his area of interests.

Another student, Oloyade Wakili, whose interest revolves around hardware, software, networking and project management, said he decided to join the excursion team because of the excitement surrounding the name CWG, which according to him is one of the best ICT companies in Africa.

He said he was definitely not disappointed, as the excursion has afforded him the opportunity to have a first-hand practical experience of some IT infrastructure, which hitherto he only read about on the Internet.

“As far as we are concerned, this excursion has given us an enormous opportunity to gain more knowledge on how to ‘close the gap’ between the theories of school and the practical use of same in the work place. If we put all that together, our knowledge will be better,” he noted.
