One of Nigeria’s pioneer Smart Meter manufacturers, CWG Plc and other stakeholders in the country’s Power and Energy sector, today joined the Nigerian Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo at the commissioning of the SURA Independent Power Project in Lagos, South-West Nigeria.

CWG, the only ICT company licensed by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to participate in the procurement of prepaid meters in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), was deemed to be part of the commissioning as a result of the role it has played in revamping the energy distribution industry.

Recall CWG Plc, as part of efforts to address power challenges in Nigeria, initiated and designed a ‘Smart Metering Solution’ which works in the form of a connected mobile app for electricity consumers – both the Maximum Demand Customers (MDCs) and the Non-maximum Demand Customers (NDCs).

This Smart Metering Initiatives, has the capacity to eliminate power theft, which has hitherto dwindled the fortune and revenue of the Power Distribution Companies (DISCOs). The CWG Smart Metering initiative is keyed to Government’s smart technology solutions driving smarter cities. The solution, has a dashboard which helps the Power Distribution companies detect power theft, monitor and measure usage for improved efficiencies.

The solution is designed such that it alerts the power companies with the precise location a theft is occurring at in near–real time, not more than three minutes after it happens, without requiring large equipment deployment.

The Sura Independent Power Project, located in the Lagos Sura Shopping Complex is a Federal Government initiative aimed at energizing the economy. It is a 1.5 megawatts project built for regular power supply in order to ease power shortage to over 200,000 MSMEs This is another solution out of the stables of CWG Plc, an technology platform provider dedicated to deploying technology solutions that enable economic growth.
