The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Danbatta has given the assurance that NCC is working towards putting in place telecom infrastructure that will ultimately, ensure the digital economy being pursued by the federal government.

The former University lecturer gave the assurance in a remark during the virtual forum on Right of Way Reforms and Planning Permits for Masts and Towers in Nigeria, which was organised by the British Government’s Prosperity Fund’s Digital Access Programme in collaboration with the Commission and the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy last week.

“In maximizing the benefits of digital transformation, resilient Telecoms Infrastructure is the key enabler in delivering ICT services. Therefore, we are working towards providing effective solutions to Right of Way (RoW) challenges and other telecom infrastructure,” Danbatta who represented by the NCC’s Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, Adeleke Adewolu said.

According to him, the government is reducing the encumbrances bedeviling ICT infrastructure, especially in the provision and building of resilient fixed Infrastructure in the federation.

This, he believes will further assist in its quest to deepen broadband deployment and penetration in Nigeria, stressing that ubiquitous broadband will propel social and economic development and growth of citizens, as in; local content development & innovations, the proliferation of ICT industries and building digital skills.
