The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has issued a powerful call to action, urging Batch A Stream II corps members to become active participants in the nation’s fight against corruption. Speaking on June 24, 2025, to young Nigerians at National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps across the country, Olukoyede challenged them to be “generals” in this crucial battle, rather than succumb to the allure of internet fraud.

Olukoyede’s address emphasized the severe consequences of corruption on the future of the youth. He warned that an “ex-convict cannot hold public office,” stressing that engaging in corrupt practices could jeopardize their access to leadership roles, international visas, and reputable employment opportunities. His message underscored that the fight against corruption is deeply personal for them, directly impacting their aspirations and prospects.

Beyond mere warnings, the EFCC Chairman provided tangible tools for corps members to make a difference. He highlighted the EFCC’s Eagle Eye App, encouraging them to use it to anonymously report instances of fraud. “Be whistleblowers,” he urged, “Expose criminal acts, don’t hide them.” Olukoyede assured them of prompt action, stating, “When you see something, say something, and the EFCC will do something,” thereby empowering them to be active players in crime prevention and prosecution.

Furthermore, Olukoyede assigned the corps members a mission for their primary assignments: to “use your education to enlighten everyone against economic crimes.” He views their year of service as a pivotal opportunity to ignite change and cultivate a “community of anti-corruption fighters” who can inspire others and fortify Nigeria’s foundational integrity. He believes their service is a powerful avenue to shape the nation’s future.

From Rivers to Edo states, Olukoyede reiterated his urgent plea for youth involvement. He reminded them that they “suffer most from corruption’s fallout,” particularly emphasizing this point in Edo, where he urged them to prioritize innovation over internet fraud. He firmly rejected the notion of them as passive spectators, stressing that their active participation is indispensable. His core message remains clear: corruption is an adversary that demands immediate confrontation.

Olukoyede’s words carry significant weight for a nation grappling with the pervasive effects of corruption. “This fight today makes tomorrow greater,” he declared, challenging the corps members to uplift Nigeria through acts of integrity and boldness. He suggested that their choices today would resonate deeply into the future, shaping the destiny of the nation.
