Abuja played host to the 5th Public Service Innovation Competition Award Ceremony, a vibrant event organized by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF). This prestigious gathering celebrated the groundbreaking ideas of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) that are revolutionizing public service delivery through innovation.

Galaxy Backbone (GBB), Nigeria’s leading digital infrastructure and shared services provider, was a key participant, joining other prominent government institutions at the ceremony. The event drew notable figures, including the Chief Host, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, alongside former Heads of Service, Dame Amal Pepple and Mr. Danladi Kifasi, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Service, Hon. Sani Bala. The presence of these leaders underscored the significance of the innovations being showcased by Nigeria’s dedicated Civil Servants.

Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of Galaxy Backbone’s MD/CEO, Mr. Sani Ibrahim, the Executive Director, Finance & Corporate Services, highlighted the crucial role of inter-agency collaboration, digital literacy, and innovative thinking as cornerstones for national development. He emphasized GBB’s strong commitment to supporting initiatives like the Innovation Competition, which cultivates a culture of creativity, problem-solving, and transformative thinking across the public sector.

“Innovation is no longer a luxury — it is essential for building a responsive, efficient, and digitally enabled government,” he stated. “At Galaxy Backbone, we are proud to align with this vision through our Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy (IDTS), which strategically drives the development of digital infrastructure, fosters innovation, ensures robust data security, and builds essential capacity across all MDAs.”

The 2025 edition of the competition witnessed an impressive display of ingenuity, with 155 entries received. This included 132 individuals who passionately pitched their innovative ideas and 66 thematic teams that presented implementable solutions designed to significantly enhance service delivery and governance. Themed around critical areas such as streamlining bureaucratic processes, strategic succession planning, enhancing employee welfare, and effective change management, this year’s event reaffirmed the pivotal role of innovation in shaping a future-ready public service.

Galaxy Backbone recognizes the indispensable role of digital transformation in empowering civil servants to achieve lasting impact. By actively supporting platforms like the Public Service Innovation Competition, GBB reinforces its commitment to equipping the public sector with the necessary tools, skills, and robust digital infrastructure vital for Nigeria’s progress. Demonstrating this commitment further, GBB will provide mentorship to all the winners of the innovation challenge, offering guidance to refine their ideas, facilitate scalable implementation, and drive sustainable transformation throughout the public service.

As Nigeria advances on its path toward comprehensive e-governance and efficient service delivery, Galaxy Backbone remains a steadfast strategic partner, dedicated to building a public service that is not only seamlessly connected and digitally skilled but also deeply rooted in collaborative efforts to achieve national development.
