West Africa’s largest technology and startup gathering, GITEX Nigeria 2026, is set to take place across Abuja and Lagos from 31 August to 3 September 2026. Organized by KAOUN International alongside the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and NITDA, the second edition centers on the theme “Beyond Connectivity, The Bridge to Sovereign Innovation.”

Here are five key expectations driving this year’s landmark event:

    1. Strategic Governance & the AI Summit in Abuja

The event kicks off on 31 August in Abuja with the GITEX Nigeria Government Leadership and AI Summit. Convening ministers, state governors, regulators, and digital architects, the summit will tackle West Africa’s digital public infrastructure, regulatory trust, and governance frameworks to transition Africa from a consumer to a sovereign exporter of AI solutions.

    1. The Debut of FDX Nigeria for Radical Financial Inclusion

Making its official debut in Lagos, FDX NIGERIA by GITEX will focus on finance, digital assets, and cross-border payment platforms. Designed to leapfrog legacy banking systems, the dedicated platform aims to integrate millions of informal businesses into the formal economy while connecting regional fintech innovation directly to global venture capital.

    1. Accelerating National AI Infrastructure and Talent Pipelines

With Africa targeting a projected $1 trillion AI economic uplift by 2035, the conference will highlight the progress of Nigeria’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative. The program has already recorded 1.87 million registrations across all 774 local government areas and trained over 135,000 Nigerians, positioning the country as the continent’s primary tech talent engine.

    1. Expanding National Infrastructure via Project BRIDGE

Delegates will evaluate the rollout of Project BRIDGE, Nigeria’s ICT backbone initiative designed to raise national internet penetration beyond 70%. The initiative aims to connect underserved communities, schools, and enterprise hubs while driving the creation of 20,000 direct and 150,000 indirect jobs.

    1. Global Capital Convergence and Startup Scaling in Lagos

The GITEX Nigeria Tech Expo, Future Economy Conference, and Startup Festival will reunite global tech giants, institutional investors, and high-growth founders in Lagos. Anchored in West Africa’s primary economic hub, which boasts an estimated $259 billion gross state product, the event will facilitate cross-border deals, commercial partnerships, and technology transfer across the region.
