Google and the World Bank Group are joining forces in a new strategic alliance to accelerate digital transformation and foster inclusive economic growth across emerging markets.

This collaboration aims to rapidly deploy public digital infrastructure often called “Open Network Stacks” that will help citizens access vital services. The initiative is built on combining:

    • Google’s technology and AI capabilities: Featuring Google Cloud’s AI technology, including the Gemini models, which enable citizens to interact with government services in over 40 languages, even on simple devices. A key component is an AI-enabled framework based on the open-source Beckn Protocol, helping governments quickly adopt these networks.
    • The World Bank Group’s deep development expertise.

This powerful partnership will help governments quickly create interoperable networks for critical sectors like agriculture, healthcare, and skilling.

The collaboration builds on a successful pro bono pilot in Uttar Pradesh, India, which helped thousands of smallholder farmers increase their profitability and demonstrated that this approach can enable governments to deploy critical digital infrastructure “in weeks instead of years.”

To ensure the resulting digital ecosystems are open and sustainable, Google.org is providing philanthropic funding to the new nonprofit Networks for Humanity (NFH). NFH will work to build universal digital infrastructure (including the Beckn open network and Finternet asset tokenization), establish regional innovation labs, and pilot social impact applications globally.
