The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr. Isa Pantami has claimed that the Information and Communications Technology industry in Nigeria is presently contributing 13.63 percent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP)

Pantami, who made this claim at a Startup event, organized by NITDA in Abuja, also stated that revenue from Startups in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector berthed at $101 million in the third quarter of 2018.

“As a country, we should be excited that the burgeoning ICT sector is growing in leaps and bounds. I’m happy to report to you that the ICT sector is now contributing 13.63 percent to our GDP, while the Startup ecosystem generated a whooping $101 million in the third quarter of this year,” he said.

He argues that this feat, which he described as unprecedented in the history of ICT sector in the country must be encouraged to do more, as all over the world ICT is now the enabler of economies.
