Infobip marks 20 years of innovation, predicts rise of agent-to-agent communication by 2030

Global cloud communications giant Infobip is celebrating two decades of operations with a bold vision for the future of digital interaction. On its 20th anniversary, the AI-first company predicted a “seismic shift” in how brands and consumers interact, moving from traditional messaging to a world powered by autonomous AI agents.

Since entering the West African market over five years ago, Infobip has become a cornerstone for digital transformation in Nigeria, supporting local banks, telcos, and retailers in adopting omnichannel solutions and positioning them to compete in a global, experience-driven economy.

The tech landscape is currently moving away from Application-to-Person (A2P) messaging—the standard automated texts we receive today. Infobip forecasts an immediate transition to Agent-to-Person models, where AI agents drive autonomous, hyper-personalized conversations across platforms like WhatsApp and RCS.

“How we communicate with brands is constantly evolving. In this new agentic AI world, brands must seize the opportunity to take a holistic approach to communication,” said Silvio Kutić, CEO of Infobip.

By 2030, Infobip envisions a fully autonomous Agent-to-Agent (A2A) future, where consumers’ personal AI assistant embedded in their smartphone will communicate directly with a brand’s AI.

For instance, a user’s AI could negotiate, book, and pay for a holiday by talking to a travel agency’s AI, handling the entire process based on the user’s digital habits without the human ever needing to open a browser.

Despite the potential, Infobip warns that many businesses are not yet prepared for this shift. Currently, only 5% of enterprise AI agent projects reach production. The primary hurdles include data silos where information trapped in separate departments prevents AI from having a unified view of the customer. Furthermore, AI requires organized and accessible data to function effectively, but much of the current data remains unstructured. Finally, internal organizational structures often resist the seamless data sharing required for successful AI adoption.

With local operations in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Egypt, and South Africa, Infobip continues to scale its secure AI-powered communications across the continent. In Nigeria specifically, the company has been instrumental in modernizing customer engagement for the public and private sectors, ensuring local brands are not left behind in the AI race.

“Enterprises must act now. Brands unable to meet this future will risk losing their competitive edge,” Kutić emphasized.
