Kashifu Inuwa, the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has called for a fundamental shift in Nigeria’s public sector, urging a move away from traditional bureaucracy toward digital excellence.

Speaking at the official flag-off of the Civil Service Technology Empowerment for Capacity and High Performance (CIVTECH) Programme in Cross River State, Inuwa emphasized that the future of governance is inextricably linked to digital adoption.

The programme, organized by the Cross River State Microfinance and Enterprise Development Agency (CRS MEDA), aims to provide 2,000 civil servants with the digital tools and skills necessary for modern service delivery.

Represented by Dr. Aristotle Onumo, Director of Stakeholders Management and Partnership at NITDA, the DG delivered a keynote titled “From Bureaucracy to Digital Excellence: Leveraging Technology for a High-Performing Public Service.”

“Technology alone does not transform institutions. People do. Technology is not designed to replace public servants but to empower them by freeing them from repetitive tasks,” said Inuwa.

Inuwa concluded by outlining NITDA’s roadmap for the public sector, which includes strengthening digital public infrastructure, automating government processes to reduce friction, enhancing cybersecurity and data protection and adopting emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI).
