In a strategic move to bolster Nigeria’s digital landscape, Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of the ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau, paid a high-level courtesy visit to the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in Abuja.

Accompanied by ITU Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Emmanuel Manasseh, the visit signaled a deepening partnership aimed at bridging the digital divide and fostering sustainable ICT growth across the continent.

The delegation was received by NITDA’s Director of Corporate Planning and Strategy, Dr. Warowei Dimie, on behalf of the Director General.

The discussions focused on several critical areas of digital transformation, including digital literacy, broadband mapping, cybersecurity, and rural connectivity. A major focus was placed on reaching underserved communities, with a proposal to deploy National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members as digital literacy ambassadors.

Dr. Zavazava emphasized that the ITU’s mandate to promote resilient infrastructure and inclusive development aligns perfectly with Nigeria’s current trajectory.

“ITU’s global experience is a valuable asset for transferring tested solutions and best practices to Nigeria’s local context,” noted Dr. Dimie, reaffirming NITDA’s commitment to the collaboration.

Through its regional offices in Addis Ababa and Dakar, the ITU continues to provide technical support to its 194 member states, with Nigeria remaining a focal point for digital innovation and regulatory strengthening in West Africa.

The visit underscores a shared vision: leveraging international expertise to solve local connectivity challenges. By combining the ITU’s global reach with NITDA’s grassroots implementation, Nigeria aims to solidify its position as a digital powerhouse in Africa.
