The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof Umar Danbatta has disclosed that MTN, Nigeria’s largest mobile network has paid over 30 percent, representing N110 billion, out of the N330 billion fine it impose on it in 2015.
Danbatta stated this yesterday in Kano at a workshop on Code of Corporate Governance.
“MTN has so far paid N110 billion of the total fine of N330 billion,” he said
The Nigerian Communications Commission had imposed the fine of N1.04tn on MTN for allegedly failing to register their SIM cards. This led to a prolonged negotiation, where both parties finally arrived at N330 billion.
The payment of the fine was also spread over a period of three years.
