MTN, Nigeria’s biggest Mobile Network Operator (MNO) based on the number of subscribers on its network is ready to launch commercial Fifth Generation (5G) network services in Nigeria by next month – August 2022.

The Chairman of MTN Nigeria, Engr. Ernest Ndukwe disclosed this yesterday at Oriental Hotel in Lagos during the Titans of Tech Awards, organised by TechTV.

“MTN Nigeria is ready for the commercial launch of 5G service in Nigeria by next month,” the former Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission told participants at the event while making a remark as the Chairman of the event.

MTN Nigeria is one of the two winners of two available lots of 100 MHz TDD slots of the 3.5 GHz band for the deployment of the fifth-generation network in December 2021

The two companies have since been given a letter of the award with the Nigerian Communications Commission giving them a timeline of August 24th, 2022 for commercial roll-out.

MTN had in 2019 done a trial launch of the 5G Network in Abuja and gave Nigerians the assurance that they would get the full benefits derivable from the deployment of 5G in the country.
