The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has again reiterated its commitment towards promoting local Information and Communications Technology innovations and exposing them to investment opportunities.

The telecom regulator re-echoed this at this year’s Nigerian Digital Innovation Conference, which was held at the Polytechnic, Ibadan and organized by the Centre for Cyber Awareness and Development (CECAD).

At the event, which has in attendance stakeholders from the ICT industry, business community and the academia, the Commission noted its participation at the ITU World, is one of the ways through which it promotes investment opportunities in Nigeria, especially for local innovations. “Our participation, built on a public-private sector representation, will provide a very good opportunity to sell Nigeria’s investment potentials and innovations to the international telecom investment community,” the Executive Vice-Chairman of NCC, Prof Umar Danbatta said.

Danbatta, who was represented by Mr. Reuben Mouka, Head of Public Relations at the Commission argues that promoting local innovations is part of the Commission’s local content policy.

While urging the students to be innovative, Mouka assured that NCC would continued to apply a very transparent and consultative approach to telecom regulation in such a manner as to provide a very predictable investment climate.

He disclosed that NCC will take some innovative Nigerian youths to compete with their counterparts in the world, adding that it is also supporting ICT innovations in various institutions of higher learning and among several youth organizations across the country.

The Nigerian Digital Innovation Conference is a yearly event, which promote innovations, especially among students. More reasons, it has always been hosted by the school community.

According to the Executive Director, Centre for Cyber Awareness and Development (CECAD), the organiser of the conference, Dr. Bayero Agabi, this year’s Nigeria Digital Innovation Conference was targeted at optimizing new digital opportunities and making the ICT sector the next focal point of development for Nigeria as a country and its citizens.

He said the conference, which was hosted at the Bayero University, Kano last year examined how the rapid expansion of digital technology and broadband is transforming the economic opportunities for millions of Nigerians.
