As the world celebrates this year’s anniversary of the ‘Girls in ICT day’ the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has singled out women in Nigeria for their hard work and resilience in contributing to the growth of the country’s economy in various ways.

Specifically, the telecom regulator noted as seen in the Nigerian Information and Communications Technology industry, women can be very successful when giving the opportunity.

“As the telecom regulator we celebrate the Nigerian woman as part of the 10th anniversary of Girls in ICT Day 2021,” it said.

The Commission described the Nigerian woman as a natural leader, planner, administrator and strategic thinker, who never see her gender as an obstacle to greatness but great character such as ambition, hard work, tenacity and strive for excellence are what matters.

The theme of this year’s Girls in ICT Day is “Connected Girls, Creating Brighter Futures”

It is a day celebrated annually around the world with the purpose to raise awareness on the growing importance of digital skills to pursue successful professional careers across sectors. The initiative aims to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider studies and careers in the growing field of information and communication technologies (ICTs), enabling both girls and technology companies to reap the benefits of greater female participation in the ICT sector.
