The management of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is soliciting the collaboration of the Ondo State Government to expand broadband infrastructure and improve the quality of telecoms services in Nigeria.

Yomi Arowosafe, Controller of NCC Ibadan Zonal Office, who led the NCC team to the Governor’s office in Akure, said the strategic collaboration and partnership is a central component of the 8-Point Agenda of the Management of the Nigerian Communications Commission.

“Collaboration is required in that regard with the State’s Ministry of Works as well as with other agencies supervising infrastructure development, especially on the need to share timely information before road constructions and rehabilitations are undertaken. This is to ensure that Metropolitan Fibre Cable, and Long Distance Infrastructure licensees are able to identify and relocate their infrastructure prior to road works in order to prevent fibre cuts and damage of telecoms infrastructure which have implications for quality of telecoms services,” Arowosafe told the state governor, His Excellency, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN.

The NCC also sought deeper partnership with the State Government on the Emergency Communication Centre (ECC) project being constructed by the NCC in all state capitals in Nigeria. The NCC Controller requested standard access road and priority electricity line to the ECC project in Akure.

Governor Akeredolu promptly obliged the requests and directed Tunji Ariyo, his Special Assistant on Infrastructure, to discuss further with Arowosafe and his team on the modalities of achieving the request.
