The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has promised to facilitate the laying of 120,000 kilometers optic fibre infrastructure by 2023, believing this will exponentially increase the contribution of telecom to GDP, which presently stands at 9.5 percent.

The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, disclosed this at a valedictory press conference in honor of the outgoing Minister of Communications, Barr. Adebayo Shittu in Abuja.

Danbatta, who revealed that data usage has quadrupled from 20 terabytes in 2015 to 85 today, stated that NCC has facilitated the expansion of the frontiers of access to Information and Comunications Technology in Nigeria.

At the valedictory, which appears to serve as a platform to roll out achievements, Danbatta disclosed that managing the imposition of fine on MTN in 2015, set the tone for the recent listing of the Mobile Network Operator on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
