A collaboration that is aimed to strengthen cybersecurity, enhance digital trust, and revolutionize the national identity system has been sealed between the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

The collaboration, which is hinged on building a robust Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) that facilitates secure and seamless data exchange across the country was sealed during a meeting between Kashifu Inuwa, Director General of NITDA and Engr. Bisoye Coker-Odusote, Director General of NIMC

The collaboration, according to NITDA will leverage the utilization of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), which will not only bolster digital security but also serve as a driving force for Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.

Inuwa emphasized NITDA’s ongoing evolution, reflected in its recently revamped vision, mission, and Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP 2.0). This strategic plan prioritizes eight key pillars, including fostering digital literacy, cultivating technological talent, and strengthening cybersecurity.

NIMC’s Director General, Engr. Coker-Odusote, echoed the importance of collaboration, stating that “no institution can implement all its policies and programs in isolation.” She also highlighted a recent presidential directive promoting data integration and harmonization across government ministries and the use of PKI for national development.

To kickstart this collaborative effort, a dedicated 12-member committee was inaugurated. This committee will be responsible for synchronizing initiatives and delivering a comprehensive implementation plan in the coming weeks.

This NITDA-NIMC partnership signifies a promising step towards a more secure, trustworthy, and efficient digital ecosystem in Nigeria. By leveraging PKI and DPI technologies, the collaboration has the potential to revolutionize digital identity management, enhance data security, and empower Nigeria’s digital transformation.
