Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cisco to accelerate the country’s digital transformation journey and signifies a significant step towards the country’s goals of economic diversification, national security, and food security.

The MoU signing was followed by a visit to a demo smart farm, showcasing the potential of this technology in action. This collaborative effort positions Nigeria to leverage cutting-edge technology for a more secure, prosperous, and digitally connected future.

NITDA Director General, Kashifu Inuwa emphasized the importance of secure AI development and highlighted the role of broadband in digital transformation.

Also commenting, Cisco Country Director, Clayton Naidoo, expressed confidence that the MoU will lead to economic opportunities, job creation, and improved agricultural production for Nigerians.

    Key Areas of Collaboration:

    • AI and Cybersecurity: Upgrading the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR) into a world-class AI and Cybersecurity Experience and Incubation Center. This ensures the secure development and implementation of AI solutions.

    • Smart Agriculture Revolution: Setting up a model Smart Agriculture Demo Farm to showcase the use of IoT, drones, and other technologies for increased food production and efficiency.
    • Technology Learning Hubs: Designing and deploying hubs to equip Nigerians with vital digital skills, empowering individuals and communities.
    • Defense Technology Solutions: Fostering the incubation of innovative solutions to strengthen national security.

    Expected Benefits:

    • Improved agricultural output and food security.
    • Increased job creation and economic growth.
    • Enhanced national security through technological advancements.
    • Broader access to technology and education.
