The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) is calling on qualified organizations to join the fight for data privacy. Thus, the Data Protection Commission has reopened the registration portal for Data Protection Compliance Organizations (DPCOs).

In a statement signed by Adamma Isamade, Ag. Head, Legal, Enforcement & Regulations, the commission said the move reflects the NDPC’s commitment to building a strong data protection culture in Nigeria. DPCOs play a crucial role in ensuring organizations comply with the 2023 Data Protection Act.

According to the statement, the registration process has been streamlined to make it easier for new applicants. Additionally, the demand for DPCOs is high, with an estimated 500,000 data controllers needing oversight. Currently, only 183 DPCOs are licensed, leaving a significant gap to fill.

The NDPC sees DPCOs as more than just compliance enforcers. They envision them as champions for data privacy, raising awareness, conducting audits, and promoting ethical data practices. This will foster trust in the digital space and empower individuals to control their personal information.

    Ready to Join the Fight?

If your organization is qualified and committed to data protection, head over to services.ndpc.gov.ng to start your registration process.
