The President of the Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NiRA), Revd. Sunday Folayan has posited that Nigeria’s economy should at this stage be partly depended on revenue from the Information and Communications Technology and not majorly from oil.
Folayan, who stated this at an event recently in Lagos, also argued that for this to happen, there must be concerted efforts in terms of legislation and policies, education and capacity building, open governance and enhanced accountability.

“There is a need to rebuild our country leveraging on Information and Communications Technology, and not majorly oil. That is the case all over in other climes,” he claimed.
He added that rebuilding Nigeria can only be made easier when the role of ICT is fully recognized and harnessed, emphasizing that making ICT a center piece is the only way Nigeria can be relevant in the emerging global digital economy.
