The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has intensified its efforts to transform Nigeria’s education sector by equipping 3,600 teachers nationwide with essential digital skills under its flagship initiative, Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL). In a significant step, the Agency, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), commenced a two-day physical training program for teachers drawn from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, recently

The Abuja training serves as the culmination of over two weeks of intensive virtual sessions that had already provided foundational digital knowledge to the 3,600 participants. The core objective of the physical session is to empower selected teachers as Master Trainers. Through this structured train-the-trainer approach, the Master Trainers will cascade the newly acquired skills to thousands of their colleagues within their respective states and communities, significantly amplifying the initiative’s impact and ensuring its sustainability.

This strong synergy among key education stakeholders is crucial to ensuring that teachers at both the basic and secondary levels are equipped to deliver education relevant for the digital age, a key part of NITDA’s broader mandate to align Nigeria with global technology trends.

Beneficiaries of the training have expressed great enthusiasm and appreciation for the opportunity. Tanko Abdulkareem from Kuje Area Council described the program as a transformative experience that will enhance his ability to support colleagues and positively influence his students’ learning. Similarly, Muhammad Ademu from the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) hailed the initiative as “a timely and life-changing intervention,” poised to reposition Nigerian education for the 21st-century digital economy.

Bamidele Gbenga Samuel of Government Secondary School, Gwagwalada, emphasized that the training is providing teachers with the tools to bridge the digital divide that has limited effective classroom instruction, stressing that educators, as the bedrock of learning, must be digitally literate. Miss Veronica Miapie of the FCT Secondary Education Board further stressed that digital literacy is no longer optional but a necessity, commending NITDA and its partners for prioritizing the capacity-building of educators for long-term national benefit.

Through its Digital Literacy and Capacity Building (DLCB) department, NITDA continues to demonstrate its commitment to preparing Nigerian citizens for a knowledge-driven economy.
