At the Nigeria Tech Innovation and Telecom Awards 2019 organized by the Association of Telecom Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Broadbased Communications Ltd won the Wholesale Telecom Provider of the Year and the Metropolitan Fiber Infrastructure Company of the Year.
Also, the MD/CEO, Prince Henry Iseghohi, won an Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Telecom industry.
Broadbased Communications operates an open access Metropolitan Fiber Optic Network covering all the major business districts in Lagos.
Consequently the company provides Fiber Optic Network connectivity for Mobile Network Operators, 4G Network Operators, all the Submarine Cable Landing Stations, all Major Internet Service Providers, all Data Centers, Nigeria Internet Exchange Point, major Global Telecom Operators, all the Banks, the Nigerian Stock Exchange, all Electronic Payment Switching and Processing companies, Oil Companies, major Corporate firms and Residential Estates in partnership with other Telecom Service Providers in each Estate.
Prince Henry Iseghohi stated that these awards are testaments to the company’s dedication to the open access model, the goodwill of our esteemed Customers, the hard work and dedication of the Staff of Broadbased Communications who have installed and maintain over 3,500km of Fiber Optic Cable connected to 22 Points of Presence in Lagos.
He also appealed to various stakeholders in the industry to work together to address the varied issues facing the Telecom sector in Nigeria.
The Group Executive Director, Mr. Chris Erewele Snr, stated that this award will spur the Broadbased Team to remain committed to the provision of quality services to our customers.
He said that Broadbased has Fiber Networks in Kano State, Akwa Ibom State with Points of Presence in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Enugu.
“To ensure we deliver quality services, we have designed our Networks in Ring architectures and we securely install our Fiber Optic Cables underground with a fleet of 11 Horizontal Drilling (HDD) equipment”, the GED said.
He appealed to relevant Government Agencies to address indiscriminate destruction of Cables by Road Construction companies in Nigeria.
The Executive Director, Business Development, Mr Chidi Ibisi said the massive demand for data traffic has fueled the deployment for Fiber Optic Cables to all Wireless Base Station Sites, major Corporate Firms and Residential Estates in Nigeria.
Fiber Networks are the bedrock of every 3G, 4G or 5G Wireless Network. Fiber Networks underpin all the Sectors of the economy and are enablers for the attainment of 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The Telecom sector contributed 11.39 % to Nigeria’s GDP in the second quarter of 2019. This the next major phase of the development of the Telecom industry in Nigeria will require huge capital outlays.
He appealed to the Federal Government to provide long term Intervention Funds to enable the massive deployment of broadband networks, transform Nigeria into a digital economy, create jobs, generate much needed foreign exchange earnings and reduce our dependence on oil.
