The duo of Rack Centre and AWS have joined hands to improve internet connectivity across Africa. This was made possible during a recent webinar, “AWS Direct Connect: Extend Your On-Premise Networks into AWS,” which brought together industry experts to discuss this critical topic.

The session focused on how AWS Direct Connect can address connectivity challenges and open up new opportunities for businesses in Nigeria and Zambia. Experts highlighted how Direct Connect offers businesses a dependable solution for managing and scaling their network traffic. With real-time bandwidth adjustments, businesses can avoid exceeding their limits and maintain optimal performance. Additionally, the platform’s built-in security features make it a trustworthy choice for sectors like finance and consulting.

The collaboration also brings local and global connectivity closer together. By enabling direct connections from local data centers to AWS’s vast global network, businesses can reduce their reliance on public internet, leading to higher speeds and lower latency – crucial factors for efficient data exchange. The importance of local service providers in facilitating these connections was emphasized, ensuring a seamless integration with existing infrastructure.

AWS Solutions Architect Ashraf Altalleh spoke about the technical advantages of Direct Connect, stressing its importance for businesses seeking to streamline operations and expand their digital capabilities. He stated, “AWS Direct Connect offers a dedicated, high-performance connection that minimizes latency and maximizes reliability for businesses.”

Obinna Adumike, Head of Interconnection and Peering at AF-CIX, discussed the role of AF-CIX as a mediator between AWS and businesses. He highlighted the availability of hosted Direct Connect services through AF-CIX.

“AF-CIX serves as a vital bridge, providing businesses with cost-effective and dependable cloud interconnection solutions. Our goal is to bolster cloud interconnection, peering, and efficient traffic localization, thereby supporting digital transformation across Africa,” Adumike said.

The webinar concluded with an interactive Q&A session that addressed various concerns, including solutions for network resilience, equipment requirements, and the availability of AWS gateways in Nigeria. Participants were encouraged to connect with AWS representatives for personalized consultations, showcasing AWS’s commitment to assisting businesses in navigating regulatory environments and meeting compliance standards.

This collaboration between Rack Centre and AWS signifies a joint effort to strengthen Africa’s connectivity infrastructure. As a carrier-neutral data center, Rack Centre remains at the forefront of providing comprehensive connectivity solutions that fuel Africa’s digital ecosystem and growth.
