Sophos expands CISO advantage strategy with acquisition of Arco Cyber

Sophos has announced the acquisition of UK-based Arco Cyber, a specialist in cybersecurity assurance, in a move designed to help organizations continuously improve their security posture while navigating complex compliance requirements and evolving threats.

The acquisition marks a pivotal step in Sophos’ mission to democratize world-class security governance. Central to this strategy is the Sophos CISO Advantage, a suite of capabilities that scales the discipline and judgment of an elite CISO to organizations of all sizes.

By combining agentic AI, integrated platforms, and human expertise, Sophos enables Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) to deliver executive-level security leadership as a service.

While many tools focus on alerts, Arco Cyber’s technology shifts the focus toward continuous validation. The integration allows organizations to:

    • Verify the real-time effectiveness of security controls.
    • Map controls directly to risk and compliance frameworks.
    • Generate executive-ready insights for boards, regulators, and insurers.

“There is no shortage of exemplary security technology in the market. What’s missing for most organizations is the ability to govern those tools and understand if they are actually working. Arco offers clarity, accountability, and proof, giving our customers a stronger foundation for managing cyber risk with confidence,” said Joe Levy, CEO of Sophos.

With an estimated 359 million organizations worldwide and fewer than 32,000 employing a dedicated CISO, a massive leadership gap exists. Sophos CISO Advantage empowers MSPs and MSSPs to fill this void, evolving their role from technical operators to strategic security advisors.

“As cybersecurity matures, organizations are focused on proving impact, not just activity. The Sophos and Arco Cyber combination represents a new category of platform-led cybersecurity that connects operations directly to risk-based outcomes,” noted Phil Harris, Research Director at IDC.

Arco Cyber will join Sophos as a dedicated team, with its core technology being integrated into Sophos Central. This integration will bolster Sophos’ broader ecosystem, including Advisory Services and Managed Detection and Response (MDR).

“Arco was founded to help organizations move from assumption to proof. Together with Sophos, we can help organizations of all sizes turn security into a managed, defensible business discipline,” said Matt Helling, CEO and co-founder of Arco Cyber.
