Sophos launches workspace protection to secure hybrid work and govern AI usage

Sophos, a global leader in next-generation cybersecurity, today announced the launch of Sophos Workspace Protection. This new solution is designed to help organizations secure hybrid work environments and manage the risks associated with emerging technologies, specifically generative AI.

As a streamlined alternative to complex and costly SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) solutions, Sophos Workspace Protection secures the workspace directly through a browser-centric approach.

Traditional security models often rely on extensive infrastructure, which increases operational overhead. Sophos Workspace Protection shifts the focus to where 85% of the modern workday happens: the web browser.

By securing the workspace at the edge, Sophos eliminates the need to backhaul traffic through centralized infrastructure, reducing costs while ensuring that protection follows the user, regardless of their location.

“Sophos Workspace Protection reflects a pragmatic shift in the market. It delivers SASE outcomes through an integrated approach that simplifies deployment and helps organizations govern AI use without adding layers of infrastructure,” said Mike Jude, Research Director at IDC.

As over half of the global workforce now utilizes AI tools without formal corporate approval, organizations face increasing risks from Shadow AI. Sophos Workspace Protection addresses these risks by providing the visibility needed to assess tool usage, enforce data-sharing policies, and secure sensitive information directly within the browser.

Managed through the Sophos Central platform, the suite integrates four key components: the Island-powered Sophos Protected Browser for deep control over web activity, Sophos ZTNA for secure zero-trust application access, Sophos DNS Protection to block malicious domains at the endpoint, and an Email Monitoring System that enhances phishing detection for Google and Microsoft services.

Joe Levy, CEO of Sophos, stated: “By combining Island’s enterprise browser technology with Sophos’ security capabilities, we are helping organizations govern AI use and secure hybrid workforces with a solution that is significantly easier to manage.”

Mike Fey, co-founder and CEO of Island, added, “Hybrid work shouldn’t mean tradeoffs between security and productivity. Integrating with Sophos Central lets customers protect data and embrace AI with more confidence.”
