Cybersecurity and data protection emerged as key themes at the recent 12th Nigeria ICT Impact CEO Forum (NIICF). Industry leaders gathered to discuss the urgent need to strengthen digital infrastructure and safeguard sensitive information.

    Balancing Data Localization and Security

Ike Nnamani, CEO of Digital Reality, highlighted the importance of striking a balance between data localization and cybersecurity. While local data hosting can offer benefits, it also introduces new security risks. Nnamani emphasized the need for robust security measures to protect sensitive data, even as governments push for data localization policies.

Investing in Cybersecurity Talent and Infrastructure

Lekan Balogun, CEO of Net Access System Limited, underscored the critical role of skilled professionals in addressing cybersecurity challenges. He called for increased investment in cybersecurity training and education to develop a skilled workforce. Additionally, he stressed the importance of robust cloud infrastructure and advanced threat detection systems to safeguard digital assets.

    A Commitment to Digital Security

Abiodun Omoniyi, CEO of VDT Communications, reiterated the company’s commitment to providing secure and reliable telecommunications services. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to cybersecurity, including strong encryption, regular security audits, and incident response plans.

    Government’s Role in Cybersecurity

Tayo Adewusi, Publisher and Coordinator of NIICF, called on the government to play a more active role in promoting cybersecurity. He advocated for the development of clear data protection regulations, incentives for businesses to invest in security, and increased funding for cybersecurity research and development.

    A Collaborative Approach

The NIICF forum underscored the need for a collaborative approach to cybersecurity, involving government, industry, and academia. By working together, stakeholders can strengthen Nigeria’s digital infrastructure, protect sensitive information, and foster a secure digital ecosystem.
