The President of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Professor Adesola Aderounmu has disclosed that with the provision of ICT Parks in some Nigerian Universities, many students are currently earning about half  a million Naira monthly.

Professor Aderounmu, who is also the Dean, Faculty of Technology at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, disclosed this recently in Lagos, during  the Nigerian Communications Commision’s organized Emerging Technologies Research and ICT Innovation forum.

He said this feat is possible as a result of the NCC’s approach to strategic collaboration and partnership, which is evident in its culture of inclusion – consultation and participation of stakeholders in its programmes and projects. This, he noted, is in line with the reigning paradigm of development.

According to him, without any invitation or prompting, NCC staff walked into OAU Ile Ife and engaged the authorities about gaps in the University’s digital transformation programme for which it may require support.

Making more appeals, Professor Aderounmu urged the telecom regulator to continue to support critical sectors of the economy especially in the construction of ICT parks.

Professor Adesola Aderounmu is the architect of the $8million World Bank assisted ICT Park in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, South-West Nigeria. The ICT Park was built to create a regionally-recognised and acknowledged model that is driven by high quality postgraduate education for uptake and commercialization of research and technology to advance the growth of ICT industry in Nigeria.
