Three trailblazing Nigerian women innovators; Kemisola Bolarinwa, founder of Nextwear Technologies; Anita Ngeri, founder of Nibi’s Tech; and Odion Ikyo, co-founder of PrimeSafePath Solutions showcased their groundbreaking work at the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama, Japan.

The event, held under the theme “Co-Create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” highlighted their role in driving tech-led growth on a global stage.

These innovators were finalists from the IgniteHer Bootcamp for Women Entrepreneurs, a joint initiative by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The bootcamp was designed to help women overcome barriers like limited funding and mentorship in the tech industry. At a key session focused on Africa’s startup ecosystems, they pitched their solutions to Japanese investors and global partners.

Kemisola Bolarinwa of Nextwear Technologies presented an innovative, AI-powered device for the early detection of breast abnormalities. Her solution uses technology to address a major public health challenge, showcasing the power of grassroots innovation.

Anita Ngeri, founder of Nibi’s Tech, pitched her educational technology company, which provides hands-on training in digital skills like coding and robotics to young Nigerians, especially in the Niger Delta. Her work aims to bridge the digital divide and foster the next generation of tech leaders.

Finally, Odion Ikyo, co-founder of PrimeSafePath Solutions, introduced MaternalRecord Pro, Nigeria’s first AI-powered data automation system designed to replace outdated paper records in Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs). By enabling real-time data capture and risk detection, the platform is poised to significantly reduce maternal mortality rates.

The presence of these innovators at TICAD 9 highlighted not only Nigeria’s dynamic tech ecosystem but also the vital role of women-led startups in shaping Africa’s future. Their participation aligns with Project NINJA, JICA’s initiative to build robust startup ecosystems and connect African startups with Japanese investors. As Nigeria advances its digital transformation, NITDA continues to support women entrepreneurs and strengthen global partnerships, underscoring that empowering woman in technology is a strategic necessity for national development.
