Mr. Tim Akano, Managing Director of New Horizons Nigeria, has extended a lifetime employment offer to Olayinka Akinbiyi, a resilient and determined visually impaired corps member. This extraordinary gesture, part of New Horizons’ commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR), aims to foster an inclusive society where individuals with disabilities have equal opportunities.

Olayinka, who lost her sight at the age of two, overcame significant challenges to earn a B.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Benin in 2024. Impressed by her determination, Mr. Akano, during a visit to the new NYSC state coordinator, pledged to empower her through ICT skills training.

New Horizons, a leading ICT institute, is providing Olayinka with comprehensive ICT training. The organization plans to place her at a visually impaired school in Oshodi, where she will train students using her newly acquired skills. New Horizons will not only equip the school with necessary resources but also ensure Olayinka’s financial security through lifetime salary payments.

In addition to this initiative, the Tim Akano Foundation, recently launched by Mr. Akano, is making significant strides in community development. Projects include the renovation of Baptist Day School in Oluponna, Mr. Akano’s alma mater, where the foundation provided a borehole, secured fencing, and essential supplies for 300 students.

Furthermore, the foundation’s NYSC+ (PLUS) scheme mentors selected corps members, guiding them toward successful careers or further education. Mr. Akano personally mentored 10 corps members in 2024, all of whom have secured gainful employment. This program aims to cultivate future Nigerian leaders with essential skills, vision, and patriotism.

Mr. Akano’s initiatives underscore a commitment to empowering individuals and building a stronger, more inclusive Nigeria.
