In a strategic move to fortify Nigeria’s digital economy, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is exploring a deep-tier partnership with NASDAQ-listed Trust Stamp. The collaboration aims to move beyond basic identification, deploying cutting-edge “privacy-first” technologies to secure the nation’s $1 trillion economic ambition.

Trust Stamp is bringing a sophisticated toolkit to Nigeria designed to solve the “trust deficit” in digital transactions. Central to this is their Biometric Tokenization technology, which converts sensitive data into secure, privacy-preserving representations.

“Our technology supports secure verification, fraud prevention, and financial inclusion initiatives,” explained Jonathan Pasha, Vice President of Trust Stamp. “It is designed to function effectively in low-connectivity environments and on low-specification devices to expand access to digital services.”

By allowing verification without exposing sensitive personal information, Trust Stamp provides a solution that protects citizens’ data while enabling businesses to scale securely.

The Three Pillars of the Partnership

    1. Building on existing local successes, Trust Stamp is integrating advanced detection capabilities to stop identity-related financial crimes.
    2. The firm’s tech allows for the “tokenization of real-world assets,” a critical step in bringing physical wealth into the digital financial system.
    3. The partnership-oriented approach focuses on delivering long-term value within the local ecosystem, ensuring global tech meets Nigerian realities.

For NITDA Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, the inclusion of Trust Stamp’s expertise is not just about adopting a new vendor; it’s about building a foundational infrastructure for the entire nation.

“Trust remains a critical foundation for the growth of the digital economy,” Inuwa emphasized. “Building trust in digital platforms and services is key to accelerating adoption and unlocking opportunities across sectors.”

Inuwa further noted that NITDA’s role is to create a “supportive regulatory and policy framework” that allows private sector innovators like Trust Stamp to thrive. By focusing on systems that are “secure, inclusive, and innovation-driven,” NITDA aims to empower both businesses and citizens to participate fully in the global digital market.

The discussions have now moved toward technical-level integration. By merging NITDA’s forward-looking policies with Trust Stamp’s global verification expertise, Nigeria is positioning itself to lead the continent in secure digital transformation.
