In a bid aimed at fostering the right synergies towards achieving it’s mandate of curbing corrupt practices in the public service, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau Prof. Isah Mohammed has reinstated the Bureau’s commitment towards ensuring the goal of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in its fight against corruption and ensuring transparency, accountability and probity in government services. The Chairman made this charge in Abuja at the Bureau’s Office when he received in audience Dr Bayero Agabi, President, Centre for Cyber Awareness and Development, (CECAD) and some members of the digital capacity advocacy and empowerment Organisation.
According to the soft spoken Chairman of the CCB, he urged Nigerians to see the present administration’s anti-graft crusade as a worthy one that will put the country in a more funtional state with sustainable public institutions. Prof. Isah said the Code of Conduct Bureau is mandated “to establish and maintain a high standard of public morality in the conduct of government business and to ensure that the actions and behaviour of public officers conform to the highest standards of public morality and accountability”. He calling for a more robust stakeholders collaboration, assured of the CCBs readiness to engage in meaningful processes and partnerships that will compliment the efforts of the government towards the enthronement and promotion of high moral standards, values and discipline in the conduct of government functions.
Prof. Isah further stated that Nigerians irrespective of geographical locations are free to lodge complaints against any public office holder if they feel short-changed or dissatisfied with their actions, conduct or discharge of their duties. Prof. Isah added that, “the CCB has offices spread across the thirty six states of the federation as well as Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory”. He noted that such cases are treated in utmost confidentiality and dispatch.
In his response, Bayero Agabi commended the efforts of the Chairman the CCB and praised his commitment to help drive home the vision for which the body was set up at inception. The Ace broadcaster promised to the Chairman of his organisation’s support and cooperation.
The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) is the pioneer anti-corruption agency set up by the Federal Government of Nigeria. It has the primary responsibility of checking corrupt practices in the Nigerian Public service and has been doing so since 1989.
