The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said it is passionate about the promotion of local content, which will ultimately boost the activities of entrepreneur and reduce unemployment in Nigeria.

The Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, who spoke through the Felicia Onwuegbuchulam, Director Consumer Affairs Bureau (CAB) of the Commission at a reception for some top Management staff of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), also stated that NCC is committed to partnering with all shades of stakeholders to promote local content input into the economy.

The NCC’s comment was in response to an invitation from Tonia Shoyele, Director General of the Chamber who asked the Commission to partner the Chamber especially in the activities at its Business Entrepreneurial Skills and Technology Centre.

Shoyele stated that the Chamber runs four centres – the Abuja Trade Centre, Dispute Centre, Policy Centre, and the Business Entrepreneurial Skills and Technology Centre which recently graduated 240 persons trained in photography, web design and other vocations.

Shoyele said the Chamber, which recently won an international award, has over 3000 members of which 1500 are Small and Medium Enterprises. She said it was time NCC became a member of the not-for-profit, business-focused and advocacy organization in order to deepen the relationship with the Chamber and leverage it to implement some social responsibility programmes through the Entrepreneurial Centre. She thanked NCC for years of patronage and called on the Commission to be a major sponsor of this year’s Abuja International Trade Fair.
