Xiaomi has officially unveiled its REDMI Note 17 Series in Nigeria, introducing what it described as the country’s first smartphone with a 10,000mAh battery.

The new devices; REDMI Note 17, REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G and REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G were unveiled yesterday in Lekki, Lagos, as Xiaomi looks to strengthen its position in Nigeria’s highly competitive smartphone market.

The REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G is the flagship of the new series and features a 10,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, 100W HyperCharge and 27W wired reverse charging.

Xiaomi said the battery is designed to provide up to four days of use on a single charge based on its internal laboratory testing.

The company is positioning the series around battery endurance, durability, entertainment, photography and AI-powered features, targeting power users, content creators, travellers and consumers who rely heavily on smartphones for work and entertainment.

“REDMI Note 17 Series is our latest mid-tier performance and entertainment option with stronger charging, enhanced durability, and better audio,” said Mr. Vandy, Xiaomi Country Manager.

Meanwhile, a critical check indicates that the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G combines its large battery with a 6.83-inch 1.5K CrystalRes AMOLED display and 120Hz refresh rate.

The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, while the device carries IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K protection ratings against dust and water.

It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 mobile platform, built on a 4nm process, with up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB storage in selected configurations.

The camera system includes a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation, an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 32MP front camera. The device also supports 4K video recording at 30 frames per second.

Xiaomi is also promoting AI-powered imaging features aimed at improving photography and content creation.

The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G comes with an 8,340mAh battery and 67W turbo charging, alongside 22.5W reverse charging.

It features a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 3,500 nits peak brightness. It is powered by the Snapdragon 6s 6G Gen 4 processor and supports 5G connectivity.

The Pro 5G also comes with a 50MP OIS main camera, 8MP ultra-wide camera and 16MP front camera.

The base REDMI Note 17 is equipped with a 7,700mAh battery and 45W turbo charging, with 22.5W reverse charging.

It features a 6.99-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and is powered by the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 processor.

Its camera setup includes a 50MP main camera and 16MP front camera, with AI tools including AI Erase Pro, AI Sky and AI Image Expansion.

According to the company. the REDMI Note 17 Series runs HyperOS 3 based on Android 16 and is designed around its “Built for Years” philosophy.

The company’s specifications indicate four years of operating-system updates and six years of security updates, extending the expected software support period for the devices.

The Pro models also feature dual speakers with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio support, while Xiaomi says the Pro Max can deliver up to a 400 percent volume boost.

The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G offers up to 300 percent volume boost, while the standard model offers up to 200 percent.

The Nigeria launch comes as smartphone manufacturers increasingly compete on battery capacity alongside cameras, processors and displays.

For Nigerian consumers who depend on smartphones for mobile work, social media, streaming, navigation, gaming and digital payments, Xiaomi is betting that longer battery life can become a major purchasing factor.

With capacities ranging from 7,700mAh on the REDMI Note 17 to 10,000mAh on the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G, Xiaomi is making endurance the defining feature of its latest REDMI lineup.

The company first unveiled the REDMI Note 17 Series globally in August 2026 before expanding into other markets.

The Nigerian launch now brings the 10,000mAh smartphone proposition directly into one of Africa’s largest and most competitive mobile markets.
