Zoho Corporation has launched the Nigeria edition of Zoho Books, its cloud-based accounting platform, with new capabilities designed to help businesses simplify Value Added Tax (VAT) and e-invoicing compliance while improving financial management.
The Nigeria edition is tailored to the country’s regulatory environment and enables businesses to automate several tax-related processes that can otherwise require significant manual effort.
According to Zoho, businesses can automatically apply the appropriate VAT rates to transactions based on item type and customer classification, helping reduce errors in tax calculations. The platform also supports automatic handling of reverse-charge requirements for sales and purchase transactions.
A key feature of the Nigerian edition is its e-invoicing capability. Businesses can generate and submit e-invoices to the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) portal or the NRS Merchant Buyer Solution through an approved e-invoicing service provider.
Prashant Ganti, Vice President, Global Product Strategy and Alliances, Finance and Operations Business Unit at Zoho, said regulatory compliance and financial visibility are increasingly important for Nigerian businesses seeking to operate efficiently and grow.
“Nigeria has one of the most dynamic business landscapes, and its successful businesses know that there is a competitive advantage that comes from being compliant and having end-to-end visibility into their finances,” Ganti said.
He added that Zoho Books and the company’s wider finance and operations suite are intended to reduce the manual workload associated with VAT and e-invoicing obligations while providing businesses with real-time financial insights.
Beyond tax compliance, Zoho Books provides tools for invoicing, online payment collection, accounting, bank reconciliation, inventory tracking, project management, budgeting and workflow automation.
Zoho is also positioning artificial intelligence as a key component of its finance offering for Nigerian businesses.
A recent Zoho survey of more than 100 small and medium-sized businesses in Nigeria found that only 24% currently use AI tools for financial management, while 65% identified lack of awareness as the main reason for not adopting AI.
Among businesses already using AI, 30% reported saving between one and three hours per week, according to the survey.
Zoho Books incorporates AI capabilities across financial workflows. These include suggestions for categorising bank transactions, business information retrieval through Ask Zia, AI-assisted creation of sales transactions through Cocreate Agent, financial forecasting, anomaly detection in reports and invoicing insights through Zia Invoice Agent.
