One of Africa’s leading interconnect exchange clearinghouses and DataCenter provider, Medallion Communications Limited, on Saturday went home with two awards from this year’s prestigious Nigeria Tech Innovation & Telecom Awards (NTITA), which was powered by Instinct Wave and supported by the Association of Telecoms Companies of Nigeria (ATCON).
The two awards won by Medallion, regarded as ‘Nigeria Telecom House’ are Interconnect Service Provider Of The Year and Telecom Solutions Support Company Of The Year.
An excited Chief Executive Officer of Medallion, Mr. Ikechukwu Nnamani, while receiving the awards on behalf of the company said the awards are a testimony that the Information and Communications Technology industry in Nigeria is appreciating what Medallion is doing in terms of supporting the industry with robust infrastructure.
“The two awards that we won tonight shows we are still working hard and it is showing in the industry. We are happy the industry appreciates what Medallion is doing. We also thank the Association of Telecom Companies of Nigeria for recognizing us,” he said.
Asked what Medallion intends to do going forward, Ikechukwu stated the awards are inspiration for Medallion, which also won the ‘Best Connectivity Provider in Africa’ at the 2nd Africa Information Technology & Telecom Awards (AITTA) in Accra, Ghana recently, to work harder and offer better services that will ultimately boost the growth of the industry. “For us, each time we win an award, it reminds us to work harder and do better. We will keep working harder and offering better services to the industry,” he promised.
Medallion won the Interconnect Service Provider Of The Year 2017 award, as a result of its expertise in the establishment of carrier hotels and data hosting facilities. Today, Medallion infrastructure is regarded as the most interconnected facility in the West Africa sub-region and most likely the African continent with over 83 local and international service providers connected to it. In fact, there is no service provider in Nigeria that doesn’t ride on the Medallion infrastructure service.
Speaking on the Telecom Solutions Support Company Of The Year Award, Ikechukwu noted that the award is a display of the Medallion’s resilience in building telecom infrastructure that is currently supporting the hosting of contents from both local and international service providers in Nigeria.
“We are not surprised to have won the Telecom Solutions Support Company Of The Year Award because over the years, our Data Center courier neutral infrastructure provision for the industry is becoming even more relevant than we have done on the Interconnect space. The industry appreciates this. Like I said, all the service providers in the country that are doing well are being supported by Medallion. That is what this award is about. It is a testament to the support we are giving purely on a carrier neutral basis. We are the first to start offering open access implementation in the market. Today, the result is paying off because the industry is appreciating it,” noted an elated Ikechukwu.
Medallion is strengthening its market footings by expanding interconnect clearinghouse services across Nigeria. In addition to its facilities in Lagos and Abuja, Medallion is creating new interconnect points in Enugu, Port-Harcourt, Kano and Ibadan in its next expansion phase. This, Ikechukwu believes will make the impact of telecom services to the felt across the country.
The Nigeria Tech Innovation & Telecom Awards is touted as the most highly prized accolades in the Nigeria’s telecom industry. The award recognizes and rewards organizations and individuals at the forefront of innovation in the ever growing Nigeria technology and telecom industry.
