The Minister of Communications Technology, Barr. Adebayo Shittu is asking the support of other Africa’s countries to help a Nigerian, Mr. William ljeh into an elective position of the International Telecommunication Union (lTU).
He said Nigeria will be presenting Ijeh for election as Director, Telecommunication Development Bureau of ITU.
“Nigeria will be presenting itself for re-election into the Administrative Council seat as well as presenting Mr William ljeh for election as Director, Telecommunication Development Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union (lTU) during the ITU 2018 Plenipotentiary Conference to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirate in October/November,” he said in Abuja during the 2nd African Preparatory Meeting (APM) towards the 2018 ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-18) scheduled to hold in Dubai, United Arab Emirate later this year.
The purpose of the African Preparatory Meeting (APM) is to harmonize Africa’s position on the Plenipotentiary process (PP-18) Agenda items ahead of the 2018 Plenipotentiary Conference.
He argued that Nigeria deserves the position owing to the phenomenal growth in its ICT sector “Nigeria has been a long standing member of the ITU council and has always seen itself as a flag bearer for the interest of Africa and other developing Nations as a whole. To this end, and with your support we wish to continue the good work we have been doing over the past decades,” he added.
