    ATCON seeks NCC’s collaboration to revamp broadband penetration

    The newly elected National Executive Council of the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), last week paid a visit to the corporate headquarter of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

    The aim of the visit, according to the President of ATCON, Mr. Olusola Teniola is to seek collaboration of the country’s telecom regulator in revamping Broadband penetration initiative in Nigeria.

    Olusola believes that revamping broadband will ultimately creates jobs for the teeming youths, enhance capacity building and training for the youths, by making concrete attempts to measure the state of broadband infrastructure of the states as well as to increase its capacity utilization.

    Specifically, ATCON wants to partner with the Commission to organize the Broadband and Technology Investment Forum in all states of the federation.

    “We have come to express our interest in working with the Commission. We promised to ensure the EVC’s tenure in the Commission would never be forgotten in the history of the Nigerian telecom sector,” Olusola assured.

    Meanwhile, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, while welcoming the new ATCON delegation, said he would like to congratulate ATCON in advance for attaining 25 years of strategic leadership which they have provided over the years.

    Danbatta disclosed that the Commission has made a convincing presentation to the Governors forum on the need for the NEC resolutions to be adhered to, with regards to Right of Way, which will ultimately lead to ubiquitous broadband penetration.

    He said there is another initiative driven by the office of the Vice President is the Industrial Policy and Competitiveness Advisory Council, which intends to drive broadband penetration by additional 18 per cent and they are deploying 18,000 kilometers of fibre across the country.
