The Covid2geda app, which was developed by Warri based Nemo team as part of the efforts to support the Nigerian government in tackling the menace of the COVID-19 pandemic has been updated to do contact tracing, a feature that will help users determine if people they came in contact with, or have contacted the virus or have been exposed to those who have the Virus..

Also updated on the app is the ability to locate the Covid-19 test site and quick symptoms checks.

The contact tracing initiative is built around the Covid2gether app is the first Bluetooth contact tracing app in Africa and second in the world. The features are aimed at reducing the spread of this novel coronavirus and come in very handy to ensure that all who have recently been in contact with someone who has been confirmed to have the Coronavirus are alerted so as to get tested immediately.

Other features that come with the app include Geofence, which alerts you when you come within a certain distance to an area with confirmed cases and a symptoms checker for you to ascertain if you might have Covid-19 or not.

The app also calculates the distance between your current location and a test centre, isolation centre and an affected area along with real-time updates on the number of COVID-19 cases in each state, Nigeria as a whole and every country in the world.

Speaking on the updates, Mavino Michael, Project Lead, UI/UX designer and Android developer of Apps-pot LLC and Co-founder of the Nemo team, assured that the features in the updated app will improve Nigeria’s chances of winning the fight against Covid-19, which is presently ravaging the world.

The Covid2geda app was built by Nemo Team, a mobile app development firm based in Warri. The application identifies and displays the distance between a user location and a COVID-19 affected area. It also gives a constant update of how many people that have been affected by the virus, figures of those who have died as a result of the Virus and those who have recovered from the Virus.

A further review of the App, which can be downloaded via www.covid2geda.org, shows a search option to allow users to search for state or country statistics with regards to the COVID-19 information.

Also, users can conveniently in any location view safety tips for the COVID-19 and subsequently call the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and respective state government as their contact details are embedded in the App.

Also speaking about the App, the ICT Business Developer of the Company, Mr. Keston Agboro, noted that the App was developed to assist in managing the spread of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Nigeria.

“The development of the Covid2geda is a call on every Nigerian to work together to be healthier in the face of the Coronavirus. We have developed the App to help halt the spread of the Virus and to also provide useful information recommended by global health bodies,” he said.
