Amb. Segun Olugbile has been appointed to chair an 8-man committee set up by the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) to review the National Information Technology Development Agency’s (NITDA) Digital Economy Bill.

The essence of the committee, according to a statement issued by Mrs. Olayemi John-Mensah, Media/Strategy Officer, ACCI, is to collate ICT stakeholders’ contributions and properly review the Bill and generate actions and recommendations to be submitted in two weeks.

According to ACCI, the new NITDA Bill had been generating controversies targeted at stifling the tech sector in the country, hence the need for a review, adding that a lot had been said about the bill particularly the threat it posed to ICT in some sections.

“Concerns have been raised within Nigeria and the American Business Council over the Bill. We intend to gather the viewpoints of our members which will now inform the stand to be taken by the Chamber’s leadership. Our deliberations will generate specific amendment to the provision of the Bill as proposed by NITDA,” it noted.

It said the ACCI proposed amendment to the Bill will be forwarded to the Director-General, NITDA and the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy.

ACCI also disclosed that its resolutions at the end of the day will form the basis of its media engagement, which will push for the protection of the interest of the business community.

Olusegun Olugbile is the Co-founder/Chairman Partner of Data Analytics Privacy Technology (Ltd) a board member of Africa ICT Alliance (AfICTA) and Global Network for Cybersolution (GNC) . Olusegun is also the founder of Continental Project Affairs Associates (www.cpaa.com.ng), a digital policy expert with over 20 years of cross-cutting experience in technology governance, policy and innovation. He is a pioneer member of Cybercrime Advisory Council, a technical member, Standards and Evaluation Committee on Cybersecurity and a lead policy architect of Nigeria National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy 2013-2015.
