Nigeria faces a challenge: many children lack access to quality education. To bridge this gap, UNICEF’s global Learning Passport program joined forces with TECNO, a leading tech innovator, to support the Nigeria Learning Passport initiative launched in 2022.
This digital learning platform empowers children nationwide with curriculum-aligned resources in their local languages. Accessible online and offline, the program ensures children can learn anytime, anywhere.
The platform boasts a rich library, from foundational skills to advanced topics, along with professional development for educators. With over 888,000 users across 19 states, Nigeria is the second-largest participant in the global program.
TECNO’s partnership with UNICEF aims to supercharge the initiative. They’ll focus on strengthening content creation, acquiring and maintaining technical equipment, and providing further training for teachers.
UNICEF Nigeria’s Country Representative, Cristian Munduate, emphasized the collaboration’s importance: “This partnership allows us to reach more children, especially those in remote areas, with the education they deserve.”
TECNO’s General Manager, Jack Guo, echoed this sentiment, highlighting education’s role in breaking poverty cycles and driving development. He emphasized Africa’s young population and the importance of education for its future.
By the end of 2023, the Learning Passport program had reached 38 countries with over 6 million users and 13,000 courses. Recognized for its impact, the program received accolades like being named one of the 50 Most Influential Projects and a Top 100 Invention of the Year.
This venture between TECNO and UNICEF signifies a promising step towards a future where every Nigerian child has access to quality education, empowering them to become the driving force for progress.
