MTN Group, in a strategic partnership with Meta, is significantly improving the quality and reliability of WhatsApp voice and video calls for its users across 12 African markets. This collaboration focuses on optimizing the interplay between MTN’s networks and Meta’s application, resulting in a more seamless and high-quality real-time communication experience.

The partnership, initiated at MWC 2024, has involved in-depth analysis and targeted network optimizations to enhance the performance of real-time calling applications like WhatsApp. By utilizing data analytics and rigorous testing, MTN and Meta have developed solutions that directly improve call quality for mobile users.

Nigeria is the first market to benefit from these enhancements, with early results demonstrating a substantial 50% improvement in key performance indicators. This translates to a significantly enhanced WhatsApp calling experience for MTN Nigeria customers.

“This collaboration underscores our commitment to delivering a superior digital experience for our customers. The remarkable improvements in real-time communication services showcase our dedication to providing innovative and customer-centric solutions,” stated Yahaya Ibrahim, CTO at MTN Nigeria. “

Diego Marí, Head of Network Ecosystems Engineering at Meta, added, “This partnership allows us to deploy advanced solutions, providing an unparalleled real-time experience in Nigeria and across the region, while maintaining efficient traffic delivery. We are dedicated to consistently elevating service quality and improving user experience.”

This partnership between MTN and Meta signifies a major step forward in enhancing digital communication for millions of users across Africa.
