Cyber Security Experts Association of Nigeria (CSEAN), organizer of the annual CyberSecure Nigeria Conference has said this year’s edition will focus primarily on how organisations can safeguard their assets while implementing digital transformation agenda.
The President of the association, Mr. Remi Afon, who disclosed this during a virtual press conference yesterday also said the theme of this year’s edition is “The Future of Cyber Security in Nigeria’s Digital Transformation” and will be held virtually and physical on October 6-7, 2021 at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos State.
He said the compelling 2-day high profile event will attract the best in the cybersecurity Industry globally and feature-rich cybersecurity contents of informative and educational value.
“This year’s CyberSecure Nigeria Conference is the seventh edition. It promises to invoke a collaborative effort, an assembly of cybersecurity industry practitioners, business owners, academia, industry, government, military and law enforcement agencies with a view to identify areas of common interests and proffer inter-working ways to tackle cybercrime in Nigeria,” the President stated.
Afon believes that Cybercrime and cyberattacks are on the rise in Nigeria while organisations and governments are becoming helpless. But as an established and leading voice in the cybersecurity space, CSEAN seeks to open discussion to address these challenges during the conference.
“We aim to prepare participants through workshops, plenary, technical, academic and breakout sessions on the future of cybersecurity and the role it should play in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey. The conference will be packed with rich cybersecurity and digital transformation topics to be delivered by globally renowned cybersecurity experts,” he assured.
Whilst tech innovation is empowering forces behind booming businesses and growing economies over the world, the increasing integration of digital technologies into almost all aspects of our society is also exposing us to so many associated cyber threats.
In the last few months, there has been an astronomical increase in ransomware attacks worldwide and there is no sign that this will reduce in the next foreseeable future as Ransomware damages are envisaged to cost the world $20 billion by 2021 (this year), which is unprecedented as it is 57 more times than what it was in 2015, according to Cybersecurity Ventures.
Digital transformation has resulted in rapid technological advances such as cloud adoption, blockchain implementation, use of cryptocurrencies, artificial intelligence, machine learning, IoT, 5G and data sciences. The increase in the number of connected devices in recent years has resulted in the accumulation of data like never before.
At this rate, the world is creating 2.5 quintillion bytes of data every day. Thus the need for big data analytics. With the pandemic ravaging global economy, adoption of remote working, reliance on IT, recent acceleration in ransomware attacks, it becomes important to understand the role of cybersecurity in digital transformation.
