Former NCC’s Public Affairs Director gets new role at GreenPlinth

Dr. Tony Ojobo, the former Director of Public Affairs at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has been appointed as the Chief Business Development Officer at GreenPlinth Africa Limited.

In this strategic role, Ojobo is tasked with spearheading strategy, partnerships, and business development across the company’s expanding climate and sustainability portfolio.

The appointment marks a significant move for one of Nigeria’s most respected regulatory veterans, signaling a growing intersection between traditional infrastructure expertise and the burgeoning green economy.

Reflecting on his transition, Dr. Ojobo noted that his move to GreenPlinth is not a departure from his roots in telecommunications but an evolution of his expertise. He drew a compelling parallel between the two industries, noting that the logic of managing finite resources remains the same.

“In telecoms, radio spectrum is an invisible, finite, and regulated asset, yet it drives enormous economic value. In the climate economy, carbon plays a similar role: intangible, measurable, regulated, and capable of unlocking investment when governed effectively,” Ojobo stated.

This systems-thinking approach, which defined his tenure at the NCC, is now being applied to help Africa navigate the complexities of climate finance and carbon markets.

GreenPlinth Africa is currently at the forefront of translating high-level climate ambition into tangible, finance-ready solutions.

Ojobo’s mandate will cover several key pillars of the company’s operations. He will lead clean cooking initiatives to scale accessible energy solutions for households. He will also oversee nature-based solutions by developing projects that leverage Africa’s natural ecosystem for carbon sequestration. Additionally, he is responsible for carbon finance to create frameworks that attract global investment into local climate projects. Finally, he will drive corporate decarbonization by assisting businesses in reducing their carbon footprint to remain globally competitive.

Ojobo emphasized that climate change has transcended environmental circles to become a core economic challenge. “It is a developmental, economic, and competitiveness challenge, especially for Africa,” he noted.

By joining GreenPlinth, Ojobo aims to ensure that African markets are not just participants, but leaders in the global transition toward sustainability. His appointment is expected to bolster GreenPlinth’s ability to forge high-level partnerships and navigate the regulatory landscapes necessary to unlock large-scale climate investments across the continent.
