    Prof. Abubakar resumes as new MD/CEO of Galaxy Backbone

    Professor Muhammed Bello Abubakar, today officially resumed work as the new Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone, Nigeria’s digital Infrastructure and shared services provider, which is charged with the responsibility to develop and implement a national network and data infrastructure platform for public and private institutions.

    Abubakar was announced recently by President Muhammed Buhari as a replacement for Mr. Yusuf Kazaure,  who has been at the helm of affairs in the last five years.

    Addressing the Media and members of Staff of GBB today, Professor Abubakar assured that e will work towards achieving the vision of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, which is hinged on ‘Digital Economy as the new revolution.

    “I am committed to ensuring that as MD of Galaxy Backbone, I will work towards achieving the eight (8) pillars of creating a digital economy as developed by the Honourable Minister,” he promised.

    He explained that seven out of the 8 pillars rest on Digital Infrastructure, an area where Galaxy Backbone plays a crucial role. He thanked the outgoing Managing Director, Mr. Yusuf Kazaure for the great effort he has made in laying a solid structure for Galaxy Backbone and for the achievements the organization has attained during the period of his leadership.

    Meanwhile, the outgone MD/CEO, Mr. Yusuf Kazaure thanked the Staff of GBB, all internal and external stakeholders for their support during his time as MD and encouraged everyone to give the new Managing Director all the support and cooperation required to move the organisation forward and the entire Digital Economy journey of the nation.

    Though 100 percent owned by the Federal government and an agency within the Federal Ministry Of Communications and Digital Technology, Galaxy Backbone operates as a limited liability company determined to drive world-class professionalism in its approach to delivering Information Technology and digital services to its customers.

    The company is currently laying Fibre optic cables across the country to build an effective national network through the National Information & Communications Technology Infrastructure Backbone (NICTIB) project being driven by GBB.

    This project will see GBB connect almost all the 36 states of the federation and improve the national broadband plan of the nation. Also driving a fundamental part of the Digital Infrastructure journey in the Tier III Integrated National Datacentre being run by the organisation.
