Engr. Ikechukwu Nnamani, the Managing Director of Digital Realty Nigeria, has been honored with a prestigious entrepreneurship award and officially inducted as the first-ever Patron of the Igbo Canadian Community Association (ICCA) – Umunna.

The historic appointment and award ceremony took place on Saturday, during the ICCA Igbo Cultural and Heritage Day held at the Panemonte Banquet & Convention Centre in Etobicoke, Ontario. The colorful event drew a large gathering of Igbo men and women living across Canada, alongside members of the wider Nigerian community and the Canadian public.

Organized by ICCA executives, including President Ada Izumba and Secretary Obinna Okoye, the annual celebration highlights the rich culture, history, and traditions of the Igbo people of Nigeria, while showcasing their positive contributions to Canadian society.

In a formal invitation extended to Engr. Nnamani, the association stated that the appointment was a mark of deep respect, recognizing his excellence and leadership.

Accepting the role, Engr. Nnamani expressed profound humility, describing the lifelong title as a sacred trust rather than a mere designation. He praised the vibrant diaspora community for successfully transplanting the Igbo spirit (Igbo bu ofu), characterized by resilience, community, and entrepreneurship, into Canada’s diverse multicultural landscape.

“I am deeply moved that you have chosen me to help guide and champion this next chapter,” Nnamani stated in his acceptance speech, outlining a clear, three-pronged vision for his tenure as Patron.

His vision includes preserving heritage by prioritizing the preservation of the Igbo language (Asụsụ Igbo) and core cultural values, such as hospitality and respect, for the younger, Canadian-born generation.

Additionally, he aims to empower the community by fostering economic growth, active mentorship pipelines, and professional networking to ensure Igbo Canadians thrive. Finally,  he aims to foster bridges by deepening civic, economic, and social integration within the broader Canadian fabric.

Nnamani concluded by thanking the ICCA executives and organizers for their tireless work behind the scenes, invoking a classic proverb to rally the community for the future: “Igwe bu ike—there is strength in unity.”
