Eko-Konnect Research and Education Initiative is set to host its members, librarians and wider stakeholders including researchers and academics from higher education institutions across Nigeria to its Users Conference and Annual General Meeting.

The 2-day event is themed “The Role of Library in Open Science and Open Access”. According to a statement signed by Eko-Konnect General Manager, Mr. Owen Iyoha, the conference will hold from 21st-22rd of January 2019 at the University of Lagos (CITS Building) Akoka-Yaba Lagos.

The statement noted that day 1 of the event will focus on the role of libraries in the promotion of open science, open access repositories and how higher institutions of education can gain higher visibility in the global research and education space.

“The Conference will inform librarians and researchers of the emerging paradigms for information management and content discovery and the opportunities this brings for the institutions” the statement reads.

The statement added that Day 2 of the event will include Eko-Konnect’s Annual General Meeting where the community will be updated on Eko-Konnect activities and wider discussions of membership and sustainability of the research and education network.

Meanwhile, different stakeholders, especially students and youth at the same venue on the third day will gather for the Nigerian Youth Internet Governance Forum – NYIGF.

The essence of the Nigerian Internet Governance Forum with the theme “Internet Governance and Policy Fundamentals” is to interface Nigerian youth with stakeholders from the Nigerian internet ecosystem.

Discussions will focus largely on public policy issues relating to key elements of Internet governance in order to foster the sustainability, robustness, security, stability and development of the Internet.

“What the NYIGF intends to achieve is to enable Nigerian youths identify emerging internet related issues, bring them to the attention of the relevant bodies and the general public, and, where appropriate, make recommendations,” the statement added.
