The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr. Isa Pantami has explained how the local content development policy of the federal government has boosted sales for Original Equipment manufacturers in Nigeria.

Pantami, who was speaking at a press conference in Abuja, disclosed that in accordance with the directive of the government on local content, Original Equipment Manufacturers sold 788,295 computer systems in five years.

The sales, according to him increased massively between 2016 and 2017.  “The local content policy has resulted in an exceptional increase in the patronage of locally-assembled devices. Records have shown that in 2015, indigenous Original Equipment Manufacturers sold 98, 224 devices in 2015; 154,424 in 2016; and 355,647 in 2017,” he said.

He said this is massive, believing that the growth in sales by OEMs will continue significantly in the coming years as the agency is ready to follow the local content guidelines to the latter.
